Not every bathroom feature ages well. Built-in shelves seem like a great idea at first, but over time they can collect grime, crack the surrounding grout, or just feel dated. When that happens, the easiest fix is to close them up and get the wall looking consistent again.
That's exactly what we did here. The existing shower surround was already done in a large-format marble-look porcelain tile - the kind with those soft grey veining patterns running through it. Our job was to remove the built-in niche and patch the wall so the tile flows cleanly from top to bottom, no gaps, no awkward edges.
The tricky part with a job like this isn't just filling the hole. It's matching the tile layout so the new pieces line up with the existing courses. We framed in the opening, installed cement board backing, and then carefully cut and set tile to blend in with the surrounding wall. Getting that grout joint spacing consistent is where a lot of people run into trouble - we don't cut corners there.
The finished wall ends up looking like the niche was never there. It's a small change, but it completely cleans up the feel of the space. Sometimes the details that bother you most in a bathroom are the ones that are easiest to fix - you just need the right person for the job.
We handle all kinds of tile work, from full shower surrounds to targeted repairs and patches like this one. If something in your bathroom isn't working for you anymore, there's usually a clean solution.
